Frequently Asked Questions

What are the sacred months in Islam?
The four sacred months (Al-Ashhur al-Hurum) are: Dhul Qadah (11th), Dhul Hijjah (12th), Muharram (1st), and Rajab (7th). Fighting and warfare were traditionally forbidden during these months. They hold special spiritual significance, and good deeds carry extra weight while sins are more severe.
When is Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr?
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Hijri calendar. Since the Islamic calendar is lunar, Ramadan shifts approximately 10-11 days earlier each Gregorian year. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal (10th month), immediately after Ramadan. Use this calendar to see the exact dates for the current year.
What is the Islamic New Year?
The Islamic New Year (Ras as-Sanah al-Hijriyyah) falls on the 1st of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri calendar. It marks the anniversary of the Hijrah, Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ migration from Makkah to Madinah. Muharram is one of the four sacred months, and the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) is a recommended day for fasting.
What are the White Days for fasting?
The White Days (Ayyam al-Bid) are the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every Hijri month. The Prophet ﷺ recommended fasting on these days, which correspond to the full moon. The name comes from the bright moonlit nights. This calendar highlights White Days so you never miss them.
